Arthritic-bent hands
carefully place my money
in the tattered envelope
Her age-tracked face,
smiling
Hushed, we step
into the sanctuary
Hear it's reverent-quiet
while ornately gold,
regal red
shimmers
in the candlelight
of history
this place of worship
still comforting souls
centuries later
the flames
of prayerful
hope
dance shadows
on the walls,
my heart.
This is Flash Friday 55. If you'd like to join us, tell a story in exactly 55 words, and place your link in g-man's (Mr. Knowitall) comments. He's our host.
My 55 was inspired by our visit to Sitka, Alaska, home of St. Michael's Cathedral, a Russian orthodox church that was built in 1848. Awesome experience.

Beautifully described. Great 55 and thanks for visiting mine.
Very evocative of a moment in time. Awesome 55.
This was so beautiful...and written with such reverance for what is obviously a gorgeous church. Fabulous 55!
love the reverence of the memory. looks like a spectacular place to visit!
I find the really old cathedrals to be awesome places. St. Patrick's in NY was completed in 1878, and is the most accessible, obviously. But Notre Dame in Paris was completed in 1345 and that just blew my mind. I always feel as though, if I could just be still enough, I'd be able to hear all that history.
I loved this 55.

Old chruches always make me cry. There is just something so majestic and beautiful I am always moved, as this 55 moved me. Actually, newer churches can move me too, something so reverent and awesome, like God himself.
Thank you so much for sharing -- I feel all happy now!

Oh wow... excellent!
