Celebrate the Small Things: Still Driving that Road to Contentment!

It's Friday!  I missed this last week, and this week I really, truly need to re-focus on my contentment quest, so I'm with  VikLit of Scribblings of an Aspiring Author in this inspiring hop. These are so fun to read.  Happy posts.  Grateful people.  I highly recommend joining.

I FINALLY GOT NEW GLASSES!
I've been needing new glasses for four years, as in the ones that I use for emergencies, since I wear contacts, and then reading glasses, were four prescriptions ago.  I just really couldn't see with them anymore.

Yup.  They are tri-focals. Granny glasses.  Receptionist on Monsters, Inc glasses.  Her name was rose, and the frames are sort of rose, so they are my Rose glasses.  (Insert looking through rose colored glasses joke about me here).  No, you don't get to see them on me! The frames were $9.  I don't wear these in public.

These are the best though. (Nice mug, eh?)  These are bifocal reading glasses.  Picture this. You're a writer.  You're looking at your notes, or are texting on your cell phone, etc. Close up. Strong reading glasses.  Then you glance up at your computer. Blurry.  Switch to reading glasses that are three levels less strong to see computer.  Repeat all day.  Totally annoying, but necessary.  UNLESS, you have these magic glasses which are tuned for BOTH computer and reading.  No more switching!  Bliss.

OYT MADE DINNER
I called his bluff.  He didn't want what I said we were having, so I flippantly said, "Well then YOU make dinner!"  He said, "Ok, can I make chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes and my favorite veggie mix?"  Totally surprised mom.  "Um, sure."  I ended up taking my work into the kitchen and giving advice, but he did it all!  He's no stranger to the kitchen since he's an excellent baker, but he's never made a whole meal.  Add to that the friend he had over was staying for dinner, so extra pressure.  It was great!  (OYT is Our Youngest Teen, 14, for all you new followers!  Hi!  I appreciate you!)

I GET TO MEET A BLOGGING FRIEND NEXT WEEK!
I get to meet AJ of Naturally Sweet!  She was my minion during last year's A-Z Challenge, and this year she's a co-host.  She's going to be in my town for work and we're going out for coffee!  It will be the first time I meet a friend I met online.  I'm so excited!

What are you celebrating this week?
~Tina

Have you ever seen comedian Brian Regan's eye doctor routine? It's a scream. He said his doc suggested he get Trifocals....'Looks it's a bus! It's a plane! IT'S ALPHA CENTAURI!!!!' lmao Well you have to see and hear him do it, but it really is a hoot. lol

What am I celebrating this week? Not sure yet....I'll know later today if I'm celebrating or not. Sorry to be vague, but we've had some tough times the past couple weeks.

That's cool you get to meet AJ!
Your youngest proved he could cook. Guess what dude? You'll be doing it again soon.
I wear contacts and sometimes need reading glasses. Getting old sucks.

I desperately need new glasses. I've been putting it off for a while now.

And that's great about the OYT making dinner!

Yeah I wear contacts/glasses ALWAYS. I can't even see my alarm clock in the morning without my glasses. It's bad. LASIK seems tempting, but also terrifying hah

I'm SO excited to meet you!! :D

How awesome! You get to hang out with my "boss" in the Challenge. Tell her "hello" from me, please =)

I've never heard of trifocals before but I am now the proud owner of bifocals. Pfft, getting older is for the birds.

My youngest kid is fourteen. She cooked dinner last night. She's a gem. When mamma isn't feeling well, she cooks. Good thing that's what she wants to do when she grows up!

I have had a horrible couple of weeks, so I'm celebrating everything that's even mildly good, in an effort to stay sane. I'm celebrating that I am so close to being done with school, I can practically feel the diploma in my hands. I'm celebrating that we went grocery shopping and actually own food (and soda, juice, and tea). I'm celebrating that I'm alive.

Ooh hey, a teen cooking dinner, that is something to celebrate. Especially since he volunteered. Have a great weekend!

Well, yeah, but that's not so much cooking as it is just heating stuff up. Unless he -made- the mashed potatoes?
We have almost no food in our house that can just be heated up. A few cans of beans (because I rarely bother to do beans anymore because we don't have them very often) and a few cans of soup (maybe?) that are theoretically for emergency uses (emergency means someone is sick and having soup cravings). Oh, and frozen broccoli, because I hate prepping fresh broccoli.

I love meeting blogging buddies in person. Great post. I also have boys, and it is fun when they step up in the kitchen or other areas.
Thanks for co-hosting IWSG this month and the A to Z in April. You will be busy!

I love your abbreviation "OYT" -- very cute!

I'm celebrating the warm day we are supposed to have tomorrow. I hope some of the dirty snow mounds disappear.

Fun to meet a fellow blogger. I need to get some new glasses too, keep putting it off cos they are expensive (varifocals)! And I can never find ones I really like!
It's great when the younger members of the family start to do things for themselves isn't it?

Progressive lenses, sounds so much better. Getting old sucks Alex, you haven't even started yet.

Glad OYT can produce a meal although you might get tired of chicken nuggets.

It's always cool to meet a bloggie friend. Rose colored glasses, eh? I've got a couple myself. Blind as a bat without them.

Hugs and chocolate!

Hi, Tina. I hope you like your new glasses. I think I feel better when mine are clean and the correct prescription.
I perhaps have cause for celebration in this post, although I am still learning how to cope with some of the changes.

The hazzle with the glasses is well known, unfortunately. I have some expensive multi focal glasses that are supposed to work for reading and in front of the computer, but they don't. Most of the time I use some $5 glasses that I bought in the Copenhagen airport a year ago.

Rossi I celebrate last nights snow fall. We needed some more snow on the slopes >:)

Hi Tina .. gosh I'm lucky - I only put on glasses to read and use the computer .. and I don't do that all the time. But now - so glad those glasses are ready for use all the time .. world of difference.

Yay for OYT making you all supper (that's what I'd call it!) .. but good for him - and he's a baker - lucky you!

Also what fun to look forward to meeting up with AJ .. enjoy that coffee and I'm sure we'll hear all about it ..

Have a peaceful weekend .. Hils

That's an impressive meal for a 14yr old to make for an entire family (plus one friend). My mother never really taught me to cook/bake so I didn't learn much until I got married -- and 95% of my "cooking" is just throwing things in the oven. Hope he keeps at it and learns lots of new recipes!

Hope you and your blogger friend have a nice time meeting in person. Enjoy your weekend (and your new glasses)

Wonderful celebrations!!! I love it when my kids cook dinner. :)
And that's cool that you got to meet AJ!
I'm headed down the road for those kinds of glasses . . . but I've been putting it off. I have regular glasses, and that's enough, right? Except when I'm reading labels at the grocery store and stretching my arm. :)

Greetings human, Tina,

After scrolling down all those names, I finally get to the point where I can comment. Not easy scrolling down when you have paws.

Glad you got new glasses. I wear sun glasses to try to fool the pesky "puparazzi"!

Nice mug! Nice meal and yay to even more followers!

Meeting a blogger friend in 3D reality. Cool and AJ should be named AZ....

I'm celebrating that you are celebrating!

Pawsitive wishes,
