Not Just Somewhere...but SomeWHEN!

Like to travel? I sure do. Last time I traveled, I used a travel agency – and it's definitely the way to go. She took care of EVERY single detail for us, and the trip went perfectly.

Now imagine a travel agency that caters to your every need in the same way, but not only can they send you somewhere, they can send you somewhen. A TIME TRAVEL agency. Sign me UP!

I have several trips in mind, but not your traditional trips. I've written before about times in my life I'd like to go back and change, but with an opportunity like this, I'm thinking more Fantasy Island. (I'm sounding old, aren't I...) I'm talking about the ultimate historical, ring-side seat for some fascinating periods in history. OK, I'll admit it. I love math, words, AND history. (And science, but I'll admit that another day so I'm not a total nerd. OK, I'm a total nerd.)

I don't want to go back and change history – as a science-fiction buff (oops, more nerdiness...) I've seen way too many time travel movies that show the immense consequences of going back in time. No, I just want to watch. And learn. And see how it actually was.

For my first trip I'd go back to some of my favorite books of my 20s.  Regency romances.  Set in the early 19th century, these books were just treasures of witty dialogue, lavish parties, chaperoned outings, and stolen kisses. I'd love to go experience my own “season” in London and be courted by eligible bachelors. Since the travel agency has time and money at its disposal, I'm sure they could come up with employees to help me in this quest without disturbing the course of history.

For my second trip, I'd go back to feudal Scotland...read lots of great historical fiction there...and then maybe I'd take a trip to medieval Europe...or to the Viking era of my ancestors...wow, the possibilities are endless.

Where did I come up with this awesome idea? I didn't. This is the premise for PK Hrezo's book Butterman (Time) Travel, INC.

Wow! Those are some great places and times. Just seeing them is enough.

I love to travel, have been to many places in The US, lived in Spain and N. Ireland and also visited The Republic of Ireland. Enjoyed reading your post on this wet and windy Wednesday morning.

That's right - don't want to do anything that could change the course of history.
Cover looks awesome, PK!

If I could be guaranteed safety, I'd go back to check out the vikings too! ;)

I would travel back to the early part of the 20th century...maybe late 19th, and buy all the beaded purses, velvet cloche hats, and marbles I could get my greedy little hands on.

oo love your ideas, Tina! And of course you're right about messing with the timelines of the past--that's a big no no in BT. But then, messing with the future can do that too. I'd love getting immersed in feudal Scotland if I could avoid all the battles lol.

Thank you so much for participating!! What a fun day!

I love Pk's cover and the fact that I've run into it a bunch of times this morning.

My time travel wish would be easy. I'd just like to go back far enough to see my mom again, and tell her how much I love her.

Very interesting time travel choices. I think I too would be worried about accidentally altering the time-space continuum. :) Or going somewhere potentially dangerous (I'm a wimp, yeah). Congrats to PK!!

Hi, Tina,

The only thing I'd miss from going back in time would be electricity. Not sure I'd be willing to live without it, but a coming out season does sound exciting.

Electricity I could do without, but indoor plumbing is really a must! Love your choices.

We have some common ancestry--I'd love to explore that some, too, though I'm quite convinced I come from peasants in every direction. But a viking ship would rock! One of those with a dragon head, maybe... battle some Romans...

If I went to 19th century London I would want it to be exactly like a regency romance. ;)

Since you said you like to visit back, and I do have Google+, here is my time travel post: http://writewithfey.blogspot.com/2013/10/book-your-time-trip-today-blogfest-and.html

It's not nerdy to want to go back to Scotland in the era of Braveheart and see if the lads really did wear blue makeup... I might not run around screaming "FREEDOM" all day, though... but that's just me :)

I caught this yesterday on another blog, and it looks like a really good book to read.

Hi, Tina,

Great choices.... I must admit those times in the ninetieth century are so appealing to me as well. People spoke to each other personally. Dressed beautifully, and entertained each other through conversation, art, and music. Today. No one communicates IN PERSON any more.

Although I LOVE LIFE through the internet, I do miss personal interaction.

I've always wanted to go back to the time in Egypt when the plagues hit and the people left and would have loved to see the Red Sea parting and dry land to walk through. There are lots of points in history I would love to see...

Congratulations to PK on the upcoming release of her book!

Um... This needs to be a real thing. Like, now. Who needs history books when you can go live it!

Oh yes, I'd love to go back and look. I especially want to look at Elizabeth I and find out things we don't really know but guess at. Wouldn't it be great to go back in history and find out what really happened. It's always the victors who write the reports.

Other than math, I think I am a nerd too.

Hi Tina .. I'd love to do the Regency thing too .. and see England and Paris .. they travelled too ...

Then the Vikings - well the British Museum in 2014 would be a good place for a real time visit ..

I'm looking forward to that trip ...

PK's idea for the Butterman Time Travel is such fun .. cheers for recommending her work - Hilary
