To Fly

Trapped here
in a decaying body,
my soul longs
for the freedom
to fly

Take me up,
to the very top
from there,
I'll fly
Slicing through
the crystal air
face chapped
with the whirling
wind's caress
My feet, barely
touching earth
my arms stretched out
in gratitude
And when I land,
take me up,
take me up,
again

Alas, that's a
distant melody
of memories
playing in
my hopeful heart
maybe, one day
someday.

It's One-Shot Wednesday, a day early because of Christmas. If you've hesitated to write poetry, head on over there and join the supportive community of poets of all levels.

P.S.  I miss skiing.  A lot.  But with my fused wrist I'm not allowed to. Sigh.

Your soul will, one day, soar free again.

P.S. You can't even cross-country ski?

It is a magical thing, to feel the ground give beneath your feet, and all the world spread before you - much different from rising in a plane, or something like that. I'm sorry to hear about your wrist, but you took that longing, and bundled it beautifully into a work that both captures that feeling, and the majesty of the moment, the sensation for which you long...

All the best to you at this holiday season.

It's been many years (about 20) since I last went snow skiing. I love that feeling of freedom and the Rockies are the best place to experience that bit of heaven on earth. You described it so beautifully in your bit of prose. Wonderful!

Especially love those lines. Great One Shot!

I'm glad Matt beat me to quoting that part—great lines. Even though the imagery is uplifting in itself, I found the hopefulness in the final lines refreshing. Nice One Shot!

I have never skiid. I was about to say that we don't really get enough snow in England, but then I looked out of the window..! Irony!!

I'm more of a "watch the snow from inside the chalet" sort of girl.

Well done, Tina. If you read it again, you can see what's almost a prayer for those who are very ill, waiting for their trip to heaven. Love that.

Being in these decaying bodies as we age is what takes a lot of courage and strength! Aging and illness is not for sissies (so they say). Thanks for your poetry. Thanks for your supportive comments on my Camphost Housewife blog. I appreciate you. Merry Christmas and may the love you feel make your soul feel like it IS soaring.
