Rain Came Softly

You come softly, today
Easing over the mountain ridges
slowly, as if looking around
to see
the places you'll bless
upon your arrival

At first you whisper,
the hushed sound
of your voice
a gentle mist
then you speak
out loud,
the story more forceful
as your mist becomes
a curtain
that curtain
finally rain

Rain which softens
the harsh edges
of the naked, shivering
trees,
dimming the fading
autumn light, and
cloaking fall, with
the whisper of winter
in your wake.

It's One-Shot Wednesday again.  Write a poem and link up!

I liked this, gentle words matching the gentle arrival of the rain. Very nice.

Oh, I love this - such a minutely-detailed exploration of rain's arrival. Beautiful! I like that you address rain as a welcome friend, and the thought of rain

looking around
to see
the places you'll bless
upon your arrival

This was absolutely beautiful. I was, for a moment, back in my little house on the Front Range hearing the seasons change (and maybe thinking that the leaves were going to a lot heavier come weekend raking time).

I kept thinking of snow as I read your poem. Soft and quiet and very light.

There hasn't been a lot of 'softness' about the rain round here lately! But your words do conjure up a wonderful image :)

Ethereal, rainy day work. Effective stuff.

Very lovely. I wouldn't want to be standing in it, though.

"Cloaking fall with the whisper of winter" --that must be what I have been hearing outside. Beautiful imagery. Blessings.

Dear Tina
I love rains and as it was cyclonic rains few days back I wrote some haiku's on rain too. Your this "rain" softly rained in nice words and later perfectly, as you say, in mist.
"as your mist becomes
a curtain"
Loved the image that you created... thanks for sharing...
