Hes' coming soon!
She melts the butter in the pan,
Sizzle.
Drops in two eggs
Carefully,
She's smiling.
He's coming soon!
Don't burn the toast,
He doesn't like that.
She slathers the bread
With homemade jam.
He's coming soon!
The table is carefully set
Her best china
Table cloth chosen with care
His favorite color
He's coming soon!
She arranges the breakfast
In a smile
Eggy eyes
Bacony grin
Toast, in halves, for ears
He's coming soon!
She knows it,
But she waits
Still alone
Food long cold, and
Her wounded heart
Has a deeper cut.
I started this as a Flash Friday 55, but realized she needed more words to tell her story. This is fiction, but it comes from my heart as I grieve my beloved Grandma. As I wrote this, I thought of all the lonely Grandmas out there, who long for that little grandson to come home, even though he's long gone to college. I miss you so much, Grandma Vivian.

I would like something that gives a hint of ages here. Nice piece.
I pray for a little grandson to come along. My daughter is taking fertility treatment and I ache for the big announcement!
Even after 30 years, I still miss my granny.
*hugs*
Oh this is just lovely Tina - you are on a roll with your writing and poetry right now, despite your dislike of the summer heat I think it must be doing you good :-) Wonderfully written.
Awww! There was so much anticipation. I was on the edge of my seat. And then...sorrow!
Beautifully written :)
What a beautiful poem.
I adored my grandmother too, and 23 years later, still miss her sometimes.
I love the imagery! I miss my grandmother also. I loved her so much and even though I had her for a long time and saw her regularly, I still fill like something is missing now that she's gone...
I still feel like something is missing now that she's gone...duh...
OH, this makes me sad. Lovely writing, though.
