Maybe Her Name is Alice

sometimes I see her
watering her tiny, tattered lawn
her bathrobe
just as tattered
having long since lost
it's vibrant colors,
so faded, it's more of a shadow
than a garment
and barefoot
(Have you ever seen an 80 year-old lady barefoot)
her toes, squishing
newly watered grass
her hose
sending the rainbows
my way

This is Flash Friday 55.  Tell a story in exactly 55 words, then head on over to g-man and tell him about it, leaving your link in his comments.  You'll find more 55s to visit, too.

I hope her name is Alice, that was my mom's name. She would have be only 78 now though!

Lovely words.

Well, I HAVE seen a 77-year-old-man mowing grass, cutting down trees, pulling weeds, then go into his house and practice violin. ME!

Hey, I really enjoyed your reverie. Tuck those rainbows under your arm, color them vibrantly, And one fine day
Give them away.

PEACE!

Hey, that bathrobe is probably only twenty years old. Still perfectly good. Love the rainbow line.

We had a recluse that lived behind us. For about 364 days a year you never knew anyone was around her house but once a year she would appear. A tiny little thing in a big straw hat, she would creep outside and poke around her yard and then disappear for another year. After she died a young couple bought her house and now small children laugh and play in that yard. Excellent 55, you captured it well.

My grandmother was one of those barefoot old ladies. She didn't like wearing her shoes or her teeth. Loved the phrase "sending the rainbows my way". Beautifully written

This is wonderful. I can see her too. On Saturday, I'll be posting about the 80-something woman I used to see in my neighborhood tending her yard.

Once again I agree with other comments here the imagery your words conjured up is just perfect! I hope you are considering where to take your writing from here as I think you have the talent to take it anywhere you want.

I like this one...and the spunk of a little old lady who still likes to be a kid when it comes to water.

The elderly are soooo wonderful. They share sooo much with us, if we only listen and take the time. Nice one. :) Have a great week.
