Wednesday Whirlwind

I'm on “a short, three-to-five minute hold” with my insurance company so I thought it would be a great time to write my post because we all know their hold time estimates are kind of like when a contractor gives you the date a project will be done...

I posted last week about being swamped. I thought I'd catch you up about which of the dangers of the fire swamp have been eliminated, and which I'm still dealing with. To catch you up, here was my swamp as of last week:
  • I've got my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary Party to plan

Here are the invites

Here I am, mailing the invites, "only" 6 days past my deadline...

But they're DONE! How that happened is actually funny/sad/frustrating/miraculous so I may post it. Teaser: sometimes the solution is so simple only a future engineer can see it.
,
  • My last Precept lesson of the year to plan

  • Had last lesson and a great pot-luck after wards and we're all set to start again mid-January.
  • We have literally no FRESH food in the house, only our zombie apocalypse stuff. Need groceries.

  • We hit up our apocalypse stash a few more days, then The Transporter dragged me through store. He's a gem.

  • Nobody has clean clothes. Laundry must be done!
  • Everyone pitched in and it got done. Since I wrote that post, we've done yet another round. Feeling on regular schedule there again. Amazing feeling.

  • I've got a list of phone calls the length of Rapunzel's hair to make
Rapunzel's hair is even longer. Let's leave it there or I'll end up telling you about the over an hour call to my insurance company this morning and no one wants to hear about stuff like that.

  • And I haven't slept well in two weeks...so I need to go to the doctor
  • Thank you God for letting us invent Ambien. I'm less of a zombie and more of a functioning person.

Bottom line: still have to deal with the R.O.U.S's, but I've got weapons.

I'm leaving you with one of my favorite commercials. It was my inspiration for Monday's flash fiction honoring Arlee Bird. Flaming turkey wings for all my friend!

P.S Pay attention to the tree in the background...

P.P.S The dots and bizarre font size changes all over the place?  Don't ask.  I was feeling insane and downloaded Windows 8.1 (it can't get any worse, right?) (I should know better than to even think that...)  Apparently it likes dots so much I can't erase them...and has it's own opinion about what size my text should be.  Or I could blame Blogger.  It all looks perfect until I hit preview...

Sure hope you get everything done. Right now, I'm waiting it out in a hospital waiting room while Sweetman goes through surgery on his vocal cords and a shot of chemo.

No, not Windows 8.1! Just say no.
You did get through all of it. Most of it anyway.
Still on hold with your insurance?

I have NOT downloaded 8.1. My computer has been reminding me about it for weeks and weeks, but, now that I have figured out how to get around in 8 (even though I hate it), I figured I didn't want to mess with it. So, after weeks of prompts to download 8.1, I got a warning thing (from HP, I think) telling me NOT to update to 8.1 until I had done a list of things to my computer. Not doing these things (and there were MANY) would cause problems with 8.1. Now, you have to understand that the prompts to update to 8.1 are also from HP.
I have to say: It doesn't do a lot of good to send a warning WEEKS after you've already been telling people to do the thing you're warning them against. LAME!

So I'm staying away from 8.1 and any reorganizing of my computer.

Me I decided to stay away from 8 altogether. It was going to mean I had to lose some favourite programmes so I am still on 7.

Glad you got some things off your list, but these things keep piling up all the time don't they. I'm glad to hear everyone pitched in to help.

I'll stay on 7 till I buy a new PC. When you mailed the invites did you have to use all the mailboxes? Love The commercial. Thats why I do turkey at Thanksgiving and I barbeque for Christmas.

See you're making progress! Slow and steady wins the race!

But look how much you got done! There may still be more, but look at how much progress you've made. It's the best way to feel good about what you've done- to see what you have done instead of what you haven't.

The Muppet song "Moving Right Along" comes to mind... ;)

I thought the fonts looked rather funky! But if you're not expecting them to change, then it can be a bit frustrating. As is being on hold for an hour!!! At least you're sleeping, so these things are so much easier to deal with :-)

Just keep knocking things off the list, one by one.

I like the dots!

When I imported my blog to WordPress, a LOT of formatting went to the dogs. I had to go into the html view to fix it. Still haven't finished fixing all the earlier posts, so they look about the same. I already heard horror stories about Windows 8.

My list is about like yours. Or Rapunzel's hair. TOO LONG!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Tina!

Hi Tina .. thankfully my list is not as long or as complicated! You live life to the full .. but Viking chicks can do that ...

... however are there any flaming chick wings left? Love the clip - wonderful to see .. and that tree slowly wilting as the days pass -

Fun .. cheers Hilary
