And
the rain came down
everything was hell
never
saw that it was coming
no
one rang the warning bell
And
the rain came down
in
torrents and in sheets
chocolate
muddy water
filled
up all the streets
And
the rain came down
washed
away the homes
the
rivers left their banks
and
found new ways to roam
And
the rain came down
neighborhoods
were gone
so
many people stranded
livestock left without a barn
And
the rain came down
flooded
streets were closed
the
destruction so massive
no
one had supposed
And the rain is gone
streets
are drying up
people
helping people
things
are looking up
And the sun came out
drying
all the mud
but lots
of clean up left
from
this massive flood
I've
had the chorus to that Travelling Wilburys' song (Tweeter and the Monkey Man) stuck in my
head for over a week. The chorus goes:
And
the walls came down
all the way to hell
Never saw them when they're standing
Never saw them when they're standing
Never
saw them when they fell
The
poem kinda comes from there.

Lots of work ahead, but it can be done if everyone pulls together.
Hart rocks! Already downloaded her latest.
Tina, you always have something great to say!
you can never go wrong with The Travelling Wilburys.
Thank you so much for sharing! If anyone is really set on the freebie, I will do the first free again October 10 when I plan to release the 3rd!
Have a lovely weekend.
There is an unfair distribution on rainfall in this country. We need to petition the government for equal rainfall for all areas. Give L.A. some of that rain.

I loooooove 'tweeter and the monkey man'!!!! That whole album was awesome. A friend from high school is working on the damage to his 5th wheel RV...it was pretty bad.
You poem is very powerful, Tina...
We just had a torrential rain and hail storm here in Chicago. The streets flooded the winds tore through the trees severing many of the branches now littering the streets, sidewalks, and park.
SO sad for the parts of the country literally washed away. Water is our life, but it is also devastating.
Congrats to Hart!
Have a wonderful weekend.
And the rain doth stop. That be good in your neighbourhood.
The weather is a worry and I'm every so sorry.
Good of you to bring this awareness of Hart. Your Hart's in the write place.
Pawsitive wishes for a good weekend,
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :)
very nice...i like your poetry...the one thing about disaster is that it can bring people together in ways nothing else does...so i like them helping one another in the after....
Lovely poem.
The power of water... such a force...
Take care.
And the rain came down
In far off lands
Drenching my soul
Dripping off my hands!
We're getting plenty of rain in our parts too!
Loved your poem, Tina!
I had no idea you were a poet. Everytime I come here I find something new and wonderful.
Great poem. I like the sadness. I hope things are looking up for you now.
When I find myself down, I tend to listen, obsessively, to a song that cheers me up. This week it was "Unbelievers" by Vampire Weekend. I don't know if that song will work for you, but if it doesn't, maybe find your own song and see if that doesn't help.
Tina, what can I say? Wish I could help. We totally missed any flooding here in Castle Rock. I am so sorry, let us know through your blog if there is a special family we could help and perhaps we could start some kind of a fund-raiser.
If you want to send any of that rain our way, it would be much appreciated! (San Diego)
Very nice remembrance to the victims of the recent flood. The sun will shine again. Thanks for this, Tina.

Hi Tina .. your poem says it all .. the "chocolate muddy water" - the aftermath is always so challenging, especially for those directly affected ...
I'm just glad you're not - but helping out will be ongoing .. which I know you as a family will be doing .. Hilary
