The W(h)IP IT GOOD Blogfest!

Yup.  It's blogfest week...didn't realize how close together they were until the reminders started coming.  This party is hosted by the amazing D.L Hammons, fellow co-host of the A-Z and my super supportive blogger buddy, and Elise Fallson, whom I met today!

WIP Title:  Worlds Colliding

Word Count (projected/actual so far):
8500/50,000 (doing BuNoWriMo in June. Again. And did a NaNo...but it will probably end up being longer. I'm a pantser.)

Genre:
Space opera meets Tom Clancy

How long have you been working on it?:
Since February 2011

Elevator Pitch (if you came across an agent in an elevator ride, what couple of lines would you use to summarize your book):
Leah has been slowly infiltrating the government agency responsible for her brother's death. Living on one of the new floating colonies orbiting Second Earth, she's lonely, out of energy and hope, and on the brink of losing control of her mission. Being a double agent isn't turning out to be as easy as she had thought.

Brief Synopsis (250 words or less):
In 2149, technological advances have made life better for the inhabitants of Second Earth and its many orbiting colonies. However, corruption in government agencies, especially in the top levels, has not changed at all.

Leah has been slowly building a cover and infiltrating the TIA, as a double agent. Her mission is classified, and very personal.

With Ian as her lifeline to the FBI on First Earth, she's getting closer to the truth, and closer to the top rungs of the Titan Patrol.

Can she hold on? She's slowly succumbing to the pressure, and some of her old demons are coming back to haunt her. Will she be able to control her personal issues long enough to complete her assignment?

Are you looking for a Critique Partner?:
not yet...

Are you looking for a Beta Reader?:
Once it's done...

Now that I've said all this in public, I've got no more excuses for not putting some serious time into this project. My family is on board, and as I told you, I'm doing BuNoWriMo in June. As in tomorrow. Please hold me accountable...I really do want to finish this. It started as a short story, in a writing contest, in February of 2011. I never finished it, just ran out of time. Then when I tried to finish it, I realized I couldn't because it was a novel and not a short story. If you want to read the few installments I did manage to write, they start here.

Just try to write a little bit every day. Within a few weeks you'll be surprised how far you've managed to get. Good luck with finishing it!

It sounds great. And who'da thunk the government wouldn't get any less corrupt, eh? Wish you all the best with BuNoWriMo - I'd love to read this!

The world building in your wip must be fantastic! Keep at it and finish because it'd be a shame not to. Good luck with BuNoWriMo and thanks for sharing with us today! (:

This is a great story. The synopsis drew me right in. Corruption comes in all forms and that's one thing no future advancement can change. Best of luck with Bunowrimo.

I had a similar experience with my first novel. It started as a short story written for a writing challenge back in 2009. Now it's a three novel series (I'm writing the second and have published the first). Self belief was my main issue (and still is) with writing. I lose confidence and walk away for a while. Trouble is, not I've published the first one, peeps want the second one quickly. It helps to crack my own whip! :)

Best of luck with it.

Space opera - my favorite! I wrote my upcoming book during BuNo, so if I did it, you can do it.

Hi Tina - yet more challenges and we have the privilege of holding you accountable?!

Two earths .. keeping this one in balance is difficult enough, let alone the human bouncing along on top of it ..

I love the corruption bit and wonder how you'll draw the stories together .. let alone the two worlds ..

Fascinating .. tomorrow is writing day .. and so pleased the family are for you - cheers Hilary

I have a lot of craft WIPs....does that count? ;)

Awesome. Way to make yourself accountable. =) This sounds like a great story concept, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it.

With your family on board, you definitely can do this, it is your time, and your dream.

Now, I am off to read the link.
Can't wait to see how you progress.
Good Luck in June :)

Like you say, putting it 'out here' will give you the push to see the project through - I'm hoping that's what's going to happen to me anyway LOL!

I think most writers have had the experience of putting a project aside because they're not feeling it as strongly anymore, want to work on something else, or simply are focusing on other things. If it's meant to be, the spark will come back with a vengeance.

ooh, love the premise!
And good luck on BuNo! This is the first year i haven't participated. Makes me a little sad

Good luck!
I hope to get back to some actual writing in June, but I'm not one of those pump it all out in a month kind of people.

That is one thing about these kind of confessional blogfest. Once it's out there you kind of have to fall up on it. I am intrigued by your story. I enjoy sci fi that doesn't ignore how the world use to be.

Tina I think you have a winner here. Getting started is alwyas the hardest part. I have a completed first draft and four more plots in my head and i wish i could just run away to a tropical island with my laptop and write until I had them all done. But if I did i would be jobless, homeless, divorced and disowned by my family. I have come to realize it is a process. You will do it, I have faith in you. i will come back to check on you again. I am here with the blogfest.

This is a fantastic premise and you need to get cracking on it!! You constructed an excellent pitch and should be proud of it!

Space opera? Yesssss. Sounds great!

Good for you and dig into this! If a project wants to become a novel, it will do so! Listen to your characters and go where they tell you to go!

(At least for the first draft. Second drafts and thereafter, you should take command.)

Space opera? Love it PLUS Tom Clancy-esque? Sign me up! Keep going with this one... You intrigued me ;)

May have already seen you on the BuNo page on FB?? I vaguely recall that I have, but today has been a bit of a haze of BuNo writing, weeding my garden, watching my footy team's game and...drinking beer! hehe

Your premise sounds awesome! I'd totally be in on reading it! And buying it!

Hi Tina,

Gosh, another blogfest. And those incredibly awesome, fast becoming ubiquitous folks, the lovely Elise and our buddy, D.L.

Maybe I should succumb and get involved with a blogfest, or start a blogfest so I can accumulate followers, I mean, so I can demonstrate the fine attributes of a sharing, caring blogging community.

I'm going to move to "Second Earth" and sort things out.

Sorry, dear friend, I will not hold you accountable. I want you to do things at a pace that is comfortable to you, without pressure or unrealistic expectations.

Be well, Tina, smile and stay positive.

Your friend,

Gary :)

An intriguing story! I'm always on tenterhooks when reading about secret agents, wondering who's going to discover them!
